Earthlore Band at Sangamam Thaala Utsav 2026

Can a performance become an archive? The Earthlore Band's journey from the Earthlore Fellowship to Sangamam Thaala Utsav 2026 suggests that it can. Every performance carries songs, languages, and histories creating new conversations while keeping the traditions that shaped them alive.

On Sunday evening, the Earthlore Band took the stage in Bengaluru as part of Sangamam Thaala Utsav 2026; a festival that brought together artists, traditions, and audiences from across the country. The event was in collaboration with Tvarita Collective, an arts and cultural organisation that works with indigenous and traditional artists across India.

How Earthlore Band Began

For us, this experience began with the Earthlore Fellowship. We came from different indigenous communities, carrying different musical traditions, languages, and lived experiences. The Fellowship gave us the time and space to sit together, listen to one another, exchange songs, and discover unexpected connections between our cultures.

The Earthlore Band emerged from those shared months together. What began as conversations during the Fellowship gradually became rehearsals, collaborations, friendships, and eventually, performances. Every time we step onto a stage, we carry not just our own traditions, but the collective journey that brought us together.

What the Future Holds

The band is still young. And every performance adds another chapter to its story, of one where indigenous musicians are not simply remembered for their traditions, but recognised as contemporary artists with voices that belong on today's stages.

As we reflect on our time in Bengaluru, we're also excited about what's happening back home in Mananthavady, Wayanad! The second cohort of the Earthlore Fellowship is already in its second month, and another group of artists is beginning its own journey of learning, collaboration, and exchange.

If our experience is anything to go by, some of the conversations they're having today may become tomorrow's performances. Some of the friendships they're building may grow into lifelong collaborations. And perhaps, somewhere among them, another chapter of the Earthlore story is already taking shape :)
